A 2020 study of 144 participants (average age 40, average 7 years of yoga experience) measured psychological states before and after a single 1-hour yoga session. All three positive emotions tested increased: positive engagement, revitalization, and tranquility. Five psychological resources also increased: mindfulness, body consciousness, self-transcendence, spirituality, and social connectedness.
This was not a long-term intervention study. It measured the effect of one class. The implication for regular practitioners is that each session provides a measurable psychological boost, not just a subjective sense of feeling better. Published in Complementary Therapies in Medicine, the findings support what many practitioners already know intuitively.
The data confirms it. A single yoga class measurably improves emotional and psychological well-being.
