Stating the Obvious

A blogger handed himself a permission slip I needed: blogging can just be stating the obvious.

Slide 1

A blogger handed himself a permission slip I needed: blogging can just be stating the obvious.

We resist this. We think a post — or a class — has to deliver something new, or why bother. So we reach for novelty and skip the thing that actually helps.

But teaching is mostly restating the obvious until it lands. “Breathe.” “Soften your jaw.” “Come back tomorrow.” None of it is a secret. You’ve heard it a hundred times. And then one morning it isn’t obvious anymore — it’s the exact thing you needed, in the exact moment you could finally use it.

The obvious only becomes useful on a delay. That’s the whole job. Not novelty — timing. Say the simple true thing again. Someone in the room is hearing it for the first time, even if it’s the thousandth time you’ve said it.
