Our House Rules

The Yoga Club is a community of practitioners, and our house rules reflect the values that make our community strong and inclusive.

Here’s what we expect for continued membership:

  • Don’t hurt yourself or others.
  • Be honest with others and yourself.
  • Respect each other’s belongings.
  • Take only as much space and energy as you need.
  • The community’s vibe matters, and each of us contributes to that vibe.

We have a few practice suggestions that reliably help make the best of your time at the club:

  • Make an effort to content yourself.
  • Avoid attachment—whether to poses, props, teachers, ways of thinking, or self-limiting beliefs.
  • Maintain a tidy personal space, including your hygiene and attitude.
  • Discipline and freedom both matter—take good care of yourself.
  • Self-reflection and personal study are essential for growth.

Our Mission

We Are a Community of Yoga Practitioners

Our mission is to ensure continued access to authentic yoga practices in local communities through the viability of yoga as a profession. At our home shala, we offer efficacious, evidence-backed practices that support the eight-limbed path of yoga. We provide education in Ashtanga yoga, as well as support a variety of complimentary practices, each with roots in antiquity and modern relevance.

Our offerings are designed to support general well-being, pain reduction, stress relief, athleticism, and overall happiness. While Ashtanga Yoga is our guiding framework, we respect and celebrate diverse ways of practicing yoga, keeping an open and inclusive mindset.

Quality Instruction

Our teachers are not just instructors; they are dedicated practitioners with specialized skills gained through extensive training. The diversity within our teaching staff makes us stronger as an organization. Each teacher understands the limits of their own scope of practice, and we are committed to referring out when needed. We aim to provide education in an ethical and honest way.

Accessibility

Ashtanga Yoga, by its very nature, is adaptable. Our Mysore-style practice offers an inclusive space for everyone—especially for those who might otherwise feel yoga isn’t for them. The only requirement? The ability to make it up the stairs. We strive to make the practice as accessible as possible, embracing each individual’s unique journey. The largest hurdle will be making it up to the third floor (seriously).

Consent-Focused and Trauma-Informed

Our approach to teaching includes hands-on adjustments, but consent is always a priority. Members are welcome to opt-out, opt-in, or change their minds at any time. Likewise, our teachers are given the same grace and may choose whether to assist at any moment. This consent-focused, trauma-informed approach helps create a safe and supportive space for everyone.

Non-Commercial Approach

We recognize that real yoga doesn’t need to be trendy or the next big thing. Ashtanga Yoga requires discipline—and while that may not always be easy to market, it’s an essential part of our practice. We are committed to offering authentic yoga without the pressure of ever-expanding and consuming commercialization.
