Sourced, Not Sold

Slop sells a sourceless myth. I could have posted a warning β€” instead I built the humanities companion that hands you the real sources.

πŸ•‰οΈ KEY CONCEPTS

Parampara
Lineage transmission from teacher to student β€” the chain a marketer will happily invent for you.
Yoga Sutras
Patanjali's aphoristic system β€” the primary text, read directly instead of through a sales pitch.
Darshana
A philosophical viewpoint or system β€” what philosophy actually is, before dogma hardens around it.
Viveka
Discernment β€” the capacity to tell the real thing from the counterfeit. The whole point.

Slop is winning. The feed serves a beautiful, confident, sourceless version of this practice β€” a myth dressed as a fact, a brand dressed as a lineage β€” and it counts on one thing: that you will never check where any of it came from. Faith is a fine posture in the seat of practice. In the marketplace it is the exact vulnerability a marketer is pricing in.

Most practitioners inherit their history secondhand, filtered through whoever was selling the room. You learn a myth, mistake it for a fact, and lose the ability to tell the tradition from the branding wrapped around it. Context is not trivia. Context is the defense β€” the thing that lets you tell a source from a sales pitch.

I could have written a post telling you that. I built this instead. When I audited what I actually value, “you should be able to check the source yourself” wasn’t a line I was willing to only say. So Culture and Context is that value poured into infrastructure β€” a designed humanities companion, not a disposable PDF and not an algorithm guessing what keeps you scrolling. Four sections do the work: History traces the real chain of transmission, not the marketing version. Philosophy Introduction and The Yoga Sutras put the primary texts in front of you at reading depth, so you separate philosophy from dogma yourself. And Real Ashtanga asks the honest question β€” what is the tradition, and what is the scaffolding somebody built around it to keep you dependent?

The novelty is the delivery: the humanities at practitioner depth, without a PhD, without a required-reading list you’ll never finish, without a guru you have to phone. It sits beside Foundations of Advanced Practice so your body and your literacy grow on one timeline β€” and it lives on a platform we own, in your garden rather than a rented app’s. Study the whole system on infrastructure that isn’t renting your attention back to you.

Once you can cite the source, nobody can sell you the myth. You stop being a customer for someone else’s authority and start being the executive of your own. The full arc lives here, one library behind one membership β€” the Ashtanga Tech Yoga Club. Know where the practice came from. Then no one gets to tell you what it means.

β€” Culture and Context

Slop sells you a sourceless myth; context is the tool that lets you catch it.
