Self Practice by the Sea

A Mysore-style Ashtanga retreat in Puerto Aventuras, Mexico β€” January 15–19, 2027. Four mornings of practice. Four nights on the Riviera Maya. A small group, a rooftop pool, and the kind of unhurried days that put your nervous system back where it belongs.

This is a retreat built around space β€” space to practice, space to rest, and space to wander only as far as you feel like wandering. We base ourselves in a private home in Puerto Aventuras, a quiet gated marina community tucked between Playa del Carmen and Tulum, with the beach a short walk away and a rooftop pool for the in-between hours.

The shape of it

Each morning opens with Mysore-style Ashtanga β€” self-paced, individually guided, in the cool of the day. Whether your practice is three sun salutations or the full Primary Series, you’re met where you are. After that, the day is yours: paddle board the calm marina waters, stretch out on the sand, float in the rooftop pool, read on the balcony, or head out to explore. We share group meals through the week, gather in the evenings, and offer two optional day trips β€” to Tulum and Playa del Carmen β€” there for those who want them and easy to skip for those who’d rather not move. Small on purpose: four guests, two shared rooms.

The space

  • Private home in Puerto Aventuras, Quintana Roo
  • Rooftop pool with sun and shade
  • Balcony living, open air throughout
  • Walking distance to the beach and the marina
  • Quiet, residential, and secure β€” a real base rather than a hotel lobby
  • Roughly 45 minutes south of CancΓΊn airport (CUN); ~20 min to Playa del Carmen, ~40 min to Tulum

Day by day

  • Friday, Jan 15 Β· Arrival β€” settle in, claim a room, and let the travel fall off. A welcome walk along the marina and the light going down. Easy first night.
  • Saturday, Jan 16 Β· Practice + beach β€” morning Mysore, a slow breakfast, an open afternoon, group dinner in the evening.
  • Sunday, Jan 17 Β· Tulum (optional) β€” Mysore first, then an optional day trip to the cliffside ruins and a cenote swim. Staying back is a completely valid plan.
  • Monday, Jan 18 Β· Playa del Carmen (optional) β€” Mysore, then an optional run up to Quinta Avenida. A final group dinner together.
  • Tuesday, Jan 19 Β· Practice + departure β€” a last practice and a relaxed breakfast before checkout. Leave looser than you came.

Investment

$500 per person β€” shared room, double occupancy. Included: four nights lodging in the Puerto Aventuras home, daily Mysore-style instruction, use of the rooftop pool and common spaces, and the group experience. Not included: airfare and airport transfers, food and meal costs (group-meal ingredients are split among the group), optional excursions to Tulum and Playa del Carmen, travel insurance and personal extras.

Who it’s for

Anyone with a practice, or the beginnings of one, who wants a few days to slow down and tend to it by the ocean. No experience minimum β€” Mysore meets you at your own edge. Bring a swimsuit, a sense of humor, and very few plans. Four spots only. Hosted by Michael Joel Hall, The Yoga Club.
